Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 1, 2026 · Applies to formatmyjson.com, operated by Luiz Torres
The short version
- Anything you paste into the tools is processed in your browser and never sent to a server.
- This site has no accounts, no sign-up forms, and no database of users.
- Two Google services run on the site — AdSense (ads) and Analytics (traffic stats) — and both use cookies. You can opt out of both; links are below.
The rest of this page spells out each point in detail.
The data you paste into the tools
The JSON, XML, YAML, CSV, or Base64 content you work with on this site is parsed and converted by JavaScript running on your own machine. There is no upload step and no processing backend: the site cannot read, store, log, or share what you paste, because that content never reaches it. You can confirm this in your browser's DevTools — format a document and watch the Network tab: no request contains your input.
Advertising: Google AdSense
Ads on this site are served by Google AdSense. Google and its certified ad partners are third-party vendors that use cookies — including the DoubleClick cookie — to show ads based on your previous visits to this site and to other websites. These cookies identify your browser, not your name.
You have three independent ways to opt out of personalized advertising:
- Google Ads Settings— turns off ad personalization across Google's network.
- aboutads.info/choices— the Digital Advertising Alliance's opt-out for participating vendors.
- Network Advertising Initiative opt-out — covers NAI member ad networks.
Opting out does not remove ads; it removes personalization. How Google uses data from sites that show its ads is described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Traffic measurement: Google Analytics
The site uses Google Analytics 4 to see which pages get visited, roughly where visitors come from, and which tools get used. This data is aggregated — it informs decisions like "the YAML converter needs work" — and it is the only usage data collected. Google's handling of this data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. To exclude yourself from Analytics on every site, install the GA opt-out browser add-on.
Settings stored on your device
Editor preferences — indentation width, for example — may be kept in your browser's localStorage. This storage lives on your device only, is never transmitted, and disappears when you clear your browser data.
Your rights (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA and similar laws)
European, UK, Californian, and many other privacy laws give you rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal data an operator holds about you. This site holds none: there are no accounts and no server-side records tied to you. The personal data processing that does occur happens inside Google's advertising and analytics cookies, which you control through the opt-out links above and through your browser's cookie settings. If you believe this site processes personal data about you in some other way, email contact@formatmyjson.com and you will get an answer, not a form letter.
Children
This site is a developer tool aimed at adults and is not directed at children under 13. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, children included; there is simply nowhere on the site to enter it.
External links
Guides link to specifications and documentation on other sites (ietf.org, mozilla.org, json.org, and similar). Those sites have their own privacy practices, which this policy does not cover.
